FAMILY DISPUTE RESOLUTION

Our impartial mediators guide families in crafting future-oriented solutions that meet both practical and emotional needs of children. Using a ‘facilitative’ mediation style typical in Family Dispute Resolution, we assist parents in resolving conflicts effectively. Once an agenda is set, our process ensures effective expression of each party’s interests.
In addition to traditional family mediation, we can also offer a ‘relationship-focused’ approach. This transformative method enhances communication patterns, fosters empathy, and supports collaborative co-parenting. Recognizing the role of emotions helps address underlying conflicts.
Family Dispute Resolution sessions cover:

Service Consultation Information & Session Fees
Fdr – assessment (stage 1)
Mirror Bridge will conduct an assessment for Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) suitability in accordance with Attorney General Department Guidelines.
The session allows clients to talk openly about the following:
– Relationship & family history
– Context of separation & current family circumstances
– Children’s needs & all relevant child specific information
– Concerns around safety & wellbeing
– Mediation objectives
Once an assessment with the initiating person has been conducted, the other person is invited to participate in an identical assessment process.
Session duration: 60mins – 90 mins
Session cost: $240 per person
fdr – pre-mediation preparation (stage 2)
Mirror Bridge conducts comprehensive preparation sessions to support clients to reflect on the key issues for resolution. The preparation stage is a critical stage of the process due to:
– Increasing confidence in parents to express future needs (individual & family) as well enhancing advocacy skills that are needed to represent what is important for children in a mediation session.
– Improving the likelihood of parenting agreements, whilst providing a supported pre-mediation space for existing beliefs to be challenged, and for possible options to be explored and reality tested.
– Equipping clients and to be ready to navigate an emotionally challenging mediation process that typically can be extremely stressful.
Session duration: 60 mins
Session cost: $160 per person
fdr – Mediation Session (Stage 3)
A safe space is created with clear rules established at the commencement of the session. After a mutually agreed agenda is agreed upon, the mediator facilitate conversations that provide context so than both participants are fully informed about the various options that have been put forward for consideration.
All two-party mediation sessions will also include a private session with each person. These individual sessions offer additional emotional support, enable a greater consolidation of session content, and increase the likelihood of agreements being made.
It is the role of the mediator to ensure that each person feels like they have had the opportunity to have their views heard and acknowledged by the other person. Keeping discussions future focused and strictly related to children is an important part of the mediation process, with the negotiation process leading towards agreements being fair and respectful.
Session duration: Half Day
Session cost: $1400 (usually shared between the participants).
60i certificate
The Family Law Act 1975 requires parents with post-separation disputes to undergo mediation with an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. A Section 60I certificate, confirming mediation efforts, is required before applying to the court for a parenting order. A FDR Practitioner will issue one of the following 60I certificates on request:
Certificate A – one parent refuses to attend
Certificate B – the practitioner considers the matter inappropriate for Family Dispute Resolution
Certificate C – when both parents have made a genuine attempt to resolve the dispute
Certificate D – when a genuine attempt was not made to resolve the dispute
Certificate E – the practitioner discontinues the FDR process after considering it to be no longer suitable to continue
